Additional Information
Devoted astronomer Dr. Ellie Arroway undertakes an emotional and spiritual journey after receiving the message she's waited for all her life--a mysterious signal beamed in from alien beings, who pass along instructions for building and piloting a craft that will presumably survive the passage from Earth to their home. While struggling to fund her mission, Arroway also struggles with her feelings about the nature of things, particularly after meeting a charismatic New Age believer who questions her disbelief in God. A deliberately-paced, meditative adaptation of the eponymous novel by Ann Druyan and "pop" astronomer Carl Sagan, who died during production. Academy Award Nomination: Best Sound.

  • Contact (DVD 1998)

When I first saw the film several years ago, it had lasting impression on me. It asks the big question of who we are and why are we here. The opening sequence showing the breadth of the universe gets you from the start and sets the tone for the rest of the film. The film looks great and doesn't rely on cheesy over the top CGI to convey our main characters supernatural experience. Instead it makes it's point with stunning short scene where our central character meets her dead father in another realm whilst taking part in a government funded scientific experiment. As the experiment is deemed a failure by the government they set up a public inquiry to ask why it 'didn't work'. The rest of the film is played out in a courtroom style debate on science versus spirituality. Ellie's (Foster) ...

  • Contact : a superb movie

I espacially like the small hidden links in the movie. The way Ellie past and present is connected is very beautifully done. Also the score is amazing. Good work Silvestri... The only bad thing to say is the scene were Ellie steps into the pod. The two guys walking behind here are not the same heigt. Too bad because everything in that scene is shot symetric. All in all, a great movie about life and dedication....
